Yes they are, they are very real. I'm not going to say no, because it may Jynx them in a positive way.

So Columbus... carried by their goalie = Real deal

Habs carried by Price = "regression coming"

Thanks internets

Look, Denis Savard was a fine player and had a great career, but if Columbus is pinning their hopes on him, they're in a lot of trouble.

Both are 10 to 15 range of the league in 5v5 score and venue adjusted CF%, SCF%, and xGF%

Neither are as good as they appear.

Yes this team is for real, and it seems like few people can bring themselves to say it. The failure of the last two years by this club masked the fact they had enough talent to be a contending team in the Metro and the East. The dumpster fire of last season and the massive injury-filled season of the year before blinded too many people to see the ability this team has.

At this point the much-maligned GM and President of Hockey Operations need to take a bow too. They drafted well, developed depth in the organization, and now they are reaping the benefits of it. Add into it the choice of Torts as the coach, someone who many people want desperately to fail because of his past, and it adds up to a team finally coming into its own.

After all the years of failure it makes sense for people to doubt that Columbus actually has a good team and sometime during the season something will happen and they will become the same old CBJ.

This isn't the same old CBJ, it's a good team with a bright future.

Really?

You are just assuming that this is the 2003-2004 CBJ, not the team playing on the ice now.

One thing that can't really be measured, but I've definitely seen a lot more of this season, is this team's ability to respond to adversity. They give up a goal, they take one right back. Down a goal in the third period, it's almost expected that they'll tie it or take the lead. I guess it's confidence. Winning has really changed the locker room, and Foligno is becoming the kind of captain who can inspire the rest of the team to victory.

You may be right about that, sad to say. CBJ fans have to hope the front office can find a way to dig themselves out of the hole they are in, like saying "Here is Scott Hartnell and a 2nd round pick and we pick up his salary if you leave our core players alone."

Jan is not Tanner. Jan believes goalies are part of the team and not Voodoo.

Does this mean torts actually knows how to coach? The sky might just fall if the make any real noise in the playoffs.

I did say if Bob regresses, issues could arise. But the team has. It been solely reliant on him. Last year with Rangers hot start, it was Lundqvist driven. Same to an extent with Montreal and Price. This year, Radulov has helped and if Pacioretty gets hot, as he did yesterday, the Canadiens could overcome a Price slump or injury. But it would help if Montoya was better. If Bob went down, rating in McIlhenney would not be a wise move.

Jan,

I think that if it would happen, it would be either Anton Forsberg or Joonas Korpisalo who would be #1 or at worse co #1 with MCIlhenney. If that failed there are other goalies out there who could do the job.

You forget Korpisalo could be a wild card here , he gave the cbj some respectable stats last season.

Um the underlying data suggests they are in the upper half of the middle of the pack teams. Not sure what that has to do with 2003-04.
